Dinarids (also known as Dinaric Mountains or Dinaric Alps) are a vast alpine mountain range extending from the Julian Alps to the Šar Mountains in Albania and Kopaonik in Serbia. It traverses Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, and Albania. The relief is predominantly limestone, featuring karst phenomena. It is divided into 3 parts, which roughly correspond to 3 climatic zones - Coastal Dinarids (Mediterranean zone), Central Dinarids (mountain zone), and Northeastern Dinarids (continental zone). In the geomorphological classification on Vrcholovka, we also include the Istrian Karst (south and west of the Istrian peninsula), which, although not part of the Dinarids, connects to the Italian-Slovenian Karst that is part of the Dinarids. The highest peak is Maja e Jezercës (2694 m) in the Prokletije Mountains (Albanian Alps). A rare fauna and flora are protected by 17 national parks.
