The summit of Samarskih stijena (1302 m) is part of an amphitheater that also includes a step, a pyramid, and a viewpoint. It rises above the dark green spruce forest and stands out with its various shapes and their whiteness. It offers views of Bjelolasica and the surrounding peaks to the north, Klek to the east, and Obzova to the south.
The large labyrinth of stone sculptures with unusual shapes and sinkholes, overgrown with mixed spruce and fir forests, is why the Samarskih stijena have been declared a nature reserve.
On the way to the summit lies Ratkovo sklonište, one of the most remarkable mountain shelters in Croatia, located in a rock cave that towers above it like a natural roof.
This beautiful park of stone sculptures, wild sinkholes, and delicate mountain flowers is a 5-6 hour hike from the Croatian Olympic center Bjelolasica.
At the foot of Samarskih stijena, you can access the gravel road Jasenak-Mrkopalj, from where the summit is just a 45-minute walk away.
It is marked with a sign of the name and altitude on a stone, which also contains a stamp. There is also a metal box with a logbook.
