The Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, popularly known as the Vysočina, is a vast geomorphological region in the southern part of the Bohemian Highlands. The northwestern half is Czech and the southeastern Moravian, the border runs roughly along the Jindřichův Hradec - Jihlava - Žďár nad Sázavou axis. The highest peak is Javořice (837 m), but the most prominent is the slightly lower Devět skal (836 m) in the Žďárské vrchy. The Bohemian-Moravian Highlands also include a large part of the Lower Austrian Waldviertel, which in the south descends to the Danube, beyond which the Alps begin.
