Aiguilles du Diable - Pointe Chaubert is part of challenges: 24 quatre-mille français, Alpine Four-thousanders

- five granite needles on one of the corner pillars of Mont Blanc du Tacul
- access is difficult. The five peaks are usually traversed as part of the Aiguilles du Diable crossing
- a magnificent hike that requires very high commitment, but is one of the most beautiful in the Mont Blanc massif - only for very experienced climbers ...

Since the early twentieth century, these needles, over 4000 meters high, have fascinated everyone who sees them. Henri Vallot wrote in 1905:
"From all sides, the dominant line is vertical. There are few places that can be compared to them in this regard. Their shape is truly fantastically hellish, and the name Aiguilles du Diable (Devil's Needles) is very fitting for such a Dantean decoration. The needles overlap each other, making them difficult to distinguish, and the poor topographer had a hard time navigating through the confusion of towers and peaks."

When we take a closer look at them, the first needle on the ridge rising above Grand Capucin is Corne du Diable (Devil's Horn). It measures 4,064 meters.
The next needle, Pointe Chaubert, is ten meters higher, at 4,074 m. It is named after the climber who first ascended it with a guide.
The third one pragmatically settled for its geographical designation – it is called Médiane, meaning Middle, and measures 4,097 meters.
Another needle, which has something feminine about it. The first ascender De Lépiney named it after Bizet's opera Carmen. It is 4,109 meters high.
The last needle, at a height of 4,114 meters, stands somewhat apart from its sisters, and so it was named L'Isolée (The Isolated).
