The name is derived from the highest Šumava saddle on the Czech side (Rakouská louka - 1344 m a.s.l.), located to the east towards the summit of Plechý.

According to tisicovky.cz, the summit of Nad Rakouskou loukou reaches an elevation of 1373 m, but this point is only the highest spot on the Czech side of the border. The slope continues to rise on the Austrian side, where it is crowned by two rocky outcrops according to OpenStreetMap - Adalbert-Stifter-Dachl (1376 m) near the highest Czech point and Hufberg (1378 m), about 90 meters southeast (and 40 meters beyond the border), which is the true summit of the mountain Nad Rakouskou loukou.
