Ascents are usually made from the Capanna Quintino Sella hut on the Italian side, via Felikjoch and the long, narrow southeast ridge. From the Swiss side, ascents start from Klein Matterhorn and lead over the Italian Grand Glacier and the western flank of the mountain. The first ascent was made on August 23, 1861.
I highly recommend the winter ski traverse during the Spaghetti skitour from Kl. Matterhorn.
