The Quintino Sella Hut, which was officially opened on August 29, 1981, can accommodate a maximum of 142 climbers. It is located at the end of the glacier below Colle del Felik, standing on the eponymous plateau, and is an ideal starting point for the ascent of Castor, Pollux, and climbing routes on the eastern Lyskamm and the traverse to the western Lyskamm. The accommodation complex consists of three units: the actual Quintino Sella refuge, an external building with bathrooms, and the 'old Quintino Sella hut', which, partially renovated, serves as a winter shelter and storage with approximately 25 beds in case of emergency. The hut, named after Quintino Sella, the founder of CAI (Italian Alpine Club), is divided into three floors: on the first floor, climbers will find an entrance area with a large hall for equipment, a restaurant, and a bar lounge where meals are served and breakfast is prepared. The second floor, on the other hand, is divided into rooms, each accommodating 8 beds. Finally, the third and last floor, from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Lyskamm Nose, is used as a separate dormitory with single beds and bunk beds. In 2019, the very helpful staff from Nepal closed the hut, but we arrived quite late, given the original plan to reach Gniffetti, so they stayed with us, prepared excellent food, and arranged for a one-night shift to Gniffetti. Simply amazing.
