The Lavanttal Alps represent a lesser-known but exceptionally diverse mountain range on the border of the Austrian federal states of Carinthia and Styria. This challenge will take you to quieter mountains, where you will find wide ridges, deep forests, alpine meadows, and distant views. This challenge is suitable for those who enjoy technically easy hiking, although some sections will be demanding due to their length. For mountaineers with higher requirements, this challenge is ideal for winter hiking on snowshoes or skis.

The Lavanttal Alps consist of several subranges that together form a diverse whole:

Seetaleralpe – a more rugged terrain with a combination of forests and open areas, the highest part of the Lavanttal
Stubalpe – a winding, narrower grassy ridge with beautiful views
Koralpe – a prominent ridge with extensive alpine meadows and far-reaching views
Gleinalpe – a transitional area with distinct ridges
Saualpe – a vast mountain range with typical alpine scenery

In this challenge, you will primarily find the highest peaks of the subranges that dominate the surroundings. Two are ultra peaks with a prominence of over 1000m, and four exceed an elevation of 2000 meters above sea level. Additionally, every peak over 2000m with a prominence greater than 100m, every peak higher than 1800m with a prominence over 200m, and every peak higher than 1500m with a prominence over 300m is included.

A total of 12 unique peaks, through which you will get to know the main mountaineering highlights of the Lavanttal.

Zirbitzkogel 2396m - the highest mountain of the Seetaleralpe subrange and the highest mountain of the entire Lavanttal Alps with a prominence of over 1500m.
Ameringkogel 2187m - the highest mountain of the Stubalpe subrange and another peak with an impressive prominence of over 1000m.
Großer Speikkogel 2140m - the highest mountain of the Koralpe subrange
Ladinger Spitz 2079m - the highest mountain of the Saualpe subrange
