At an altitude of 3,454 meters, Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte at Adlersruhe is the highest hut in Austria. It is located in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, right on the border between Tyrol and Carinthia.
The hut is particularly popular as a base for the normal route, as the ascent to the summit of Großglockner takes only about 1.5 to 2 hours from here. Thanks to its unique location on the rocky slope of Adlersruhe, the view of the surrounding mountains is stunning.
Access:
From the Tyrolean side, you can reach the hut in about 5 hours through the Kalser valley, starting from Lucknerhaus.
From the Carinthian side, via Heiligenblut with the starting point Glocknerhaus, it takes about 6 hours to reach the hut.
