The Kitzbühel Alps are a mountain range of broad grassy ridges, alpine pastures, and far-reaching views. Unlike the surrounding limestone massifs, they are primarily composed of crystalline rocks, making them one of the most accessible high-altitude areas in Austria.

The highest peak of the range is Kreuzjoch (2,558 m with a prominence of 1,051 m), but the greatest prominence is achieved by Geißstein (2,363 m with a prominence of 1,089 m). However, the symbol of the Kitzbühel Alps and their metaphorical king is someone entirely different. The dominant feature is the striking rock pyramid Großer Rettenstein (2,366 m), which contrasts sharply with the surrounding grassy peaks. Conversely, the lowest peak included in the challenge is Hohe Salve (1,829 m with a prominence of 1,007 m), which, thanks to its prominence, is among the most distinctive mountains in the entire range and undoubtedly deserves its place in the challenge.

Accept the challenge that will guide you through the most significant peaks of the Kitzbühel Alps – from easy grassy summits to iconic mountain landmarks with views of the High Tauern, Zillertal Alps, and Northern Limestone Alps.

Peak characteristics in the challenge:
- elevation above 1800m
- prominence above 300m
- there is a route leading to it, including unmarked paths or via ferrata
- ascent is not prohibited
