Großer Sonnblick or Malteiner Sonnblick, a peak with an elevation of 3,030 m (AA), is located in the Ankogel mountain range in the Hohe Tauern in Austria. It is the easternmost peak of the Alps with a prominence of over 100 meters and an elevation exceeding 3,000 meters (9,800 feet).

Geography
The summit is situated about 18 kilometers northwest of Gmünd and approximately 11.8 km northeast of Hochalmspitze. The normal ascent route, which is relatively flat in the upper sections from the Gmünder Hütte, is not difficult in dry conditions without snow, but the climb is quite exhausting due to the significant elevation gain that must be overcome (about 5,5 meters). Since there are no signposts or markings, good orientation is necessary for this tour. In favorable weather, there is an excellent view from the summit of Großer Hafner (3,1 m a.s.l.) and Hochalmspitze (900 3 m a.s.l.).

Großer Sonnblick has a prominence of 133 m (436 feet) and an isolation of 2,820 m (9,250 feet) to Großer Hafner.

Ascent
The normal route takes about 5–6 hours from the Gmünder Hütte (1,185 m a.s.l.) first along a forest road to the unmaintained Ochsen Hütte (1,884 m a.s.l.), then across a bridge over the stream (from here level) northward across grassy slopes, steep in places, to the alpine floor at the Kleiner Melniksee lake. The route then continues northwest across a boulder field to the cirque south of the Middle Sonnblick, over a steep scree slope to the saddle, and finally southwest along the rocky summit ridge (sure-footedness required) to the highest point.

Adjacent Peak
East of Großer Sonnblick lies the subpeak Mittlerer Sonnblick (3,000 m). Both peaks are connected by a ridge that can be traversed without the need for climbing.
