Armenian Highlands is a vast plateau in Western Asia, primarily in Eastern Turkey, Armenia, and Georgia, predominantly inhabited by Kurds. To the west, it borders the Caucasus, to the north the Pontic Mountains, and to the south the Taurus and Zagros ranges. Many mountains are of volcanic origin, including the highest Ararat (5137 m), the legendary "harbor" of Noah's Ark and the national mountain of Armenians, which was appropriated by Turkey after the Turkish-Armenian War in 1920 and became its highest peak. The second highest mountain is Aragac (4090 m), which is the highest mountain of present-day Armenia.
