Totes Gebirge (Dead Mountains) is one of the largest continuous limestone mountain ranges in the Northern Limestone Alps. It stretches across the border of Upper Austria and Styria and is famous for its extensive karst plateaus, deep gorges, cave systems, and steep limestone walls. Water largely disappears underground here, giving the range its characteristic, seemingly desolate appearance.

Totes Gebirge is a popular destination for experienced hikers and climbers. Local trails lead through vast karst plains, scree fields, exposed ridges, and secured sections. Due to its size and ruggedness, the range is one of the wildest areas of the Austrian Alps and offers a sense of true mountain solitude. Additionally, due to its location, it is the closest two-thousand-meter alpine range for South Bohemians. Join the challenge "King of Totes Gebirge" and conquer the majestic white peaks of the "Dead Mountains"; you will encounter the highest plateau in the Eastern Alps, from which limestone peaks rise, including the highest summit Grosser Priel (2515 m a.s.l.) with an impressive prominence of 1705m.

Peak features in the challenge:
- elevation above 1700m
- prominence above 300m
- there is a marked and unmarked path or via ferrata leading to it (There is no path to Großer Hochkasten, access is only through open terrain and climbing sections of difficulty II, therefore it is optional)
- ascent is not prohibited
