Bosnian 2000+ Peaks (Challenge 2000+)
Bosnia and Herzegovina may not have mountain ranges like the Himalayas, Andes, or Alps, but it certainly boasts a significant number of peaks over 2000 meters above sea level. These peaks are located in 12 different mountain ranges, totaling 78. Compiling this list is not easy, and it is essential to clearly define the criteria that peaks must meet.
On topographic maps of Bosnia and Herzegovina, printed at a scale of 1:25000, we can see peaks marked with a trigonometrical sign (a small triangle) with the name and elevation next to the triangle. However, not all of these peaks have their own names, and only when you delve into this research do you realize that it is not straightforward at all.
Peaks whose names are not written on the map are referred to as "Point XXXX".
The basic criterion for including a peak in the Challenge 2000+ is therefore the trigonometrical sign with the elevation on the map. Of course, there are more peaks that exceed 2000 meters above sea level, but if they do not meet this requirement, they are not part of the Challenge 2000+. Sometimes, the trigonometrical sign is placed on a peak that is not the highest in the ridge, which can be a bit confusing, as you may have to climb to a slightly lower peak. We know there will be objections to the selection of these 78 peaks, but such a project must have clear criteria, and these maps are currently the best reference we have.
