About chalet Refuge de Leschaux

Francie Francie

The hut, located above the right moraine of the Leschaux Glacier, is an ideal starting point for the legendary north face of the Grandes Jorasses.
The first hut was built in 1929 thanks to a donation from Dr. Étienne May at the foot of Aiguille Pierre Joseph on the right bank of the Leschaux Glacier. In 1934, it was expanded to 30 places, but in 1954 it was destroyed by an avalanche. In 1967, a modern prefabricated building was finally installed near the old site, originally intended to replace the Solvay Hut on the Hörnli ridge to the Matterhorn, which was offered by the Belgian Alpine Club to the Paris-Chamonix section of CAF. Initially 12 places, it was expanded in 2003.
Capacity of 19 places. In addition to guarding, the hut has a permanently open room with 10 places in winter.
Winter access: 3:30
In winter, you can reach the Leschaux Glacier via the required route (skiing from Aiguille du Midi or from the Montenvers station)
