The bivouac is located on Aiguille de l'Évêque, on the ridge that separates the Fréboudze and Tronchey valleys. It is built from prefabricated wooden construction with metal cladding. It is equipped with blankets and mattresses and has no running water or lighting.
Access from Tronchey takes about 6 hours. The approach involves climbing, on often steep and difficult-to-navigate terrain. There are exposed sections and some sections on rock (grade III). Capacity is 8 beds.
The bivouac is mainly used for challenging ascents of the Grandes Jorasses via the Tronchey ridge.
