Furtschaglhaus was built in 1889 as a small accommodation house.
Furtschaglalpe had already been a starting point for mountain hikes, for example in 1885, when Berliners Benzien and Noster, along with their mountain guides Hans Hörhager, were the first to climb Greinera from the south side.
Along with the construction of the hut, a connecting path was created over Schönbichler Horn from the 10-year-older Berlin hut to Furtschaglhaus, which remains one of the most popular hikes in the Zillertal and is the core of the Berliner Höhenweg.
In its first full year of operation, the hut had 158 visitors, and ten years later, there were already over 1000.
Furtschaglhaus has 56 beds in multi-bed rooms, 64 mattresses, and 12 beds in the winter room.
The hut has functioning sanitary facilities, a cozy dining room, a seminar room, a drying room, and play equipment for children. Mobile phone reception is not always reliable.
The starting point for access from Zillertal is the Schlegeis reservoir, which can be reached by public transport and by car from Jenbach via Mayrhofen and Ginzling.
From Zamsgatterl, a scientific trail leads along a gravel path on the shore of the reservoir into the farthest valley of Schlegeisgrund. At the end of the lake, the trail crosses its inflow (about 4 km to here) and continues for about 1 km, gently ascending through the valley.
Shortly before the end of the gravel path approaching the hut, it branches off to the left. In many bends, it is easy (about 400 m) to the hut.
