Everest Base Camp is the base camp at the foot of the highest mountain in the world. It is located at an altitude of 5,364 m above sea level on the southern slope of Mount Everest. The camp is the destination of the popular Everest trek and serves as a base for the greatest adventurers attempting to reach the summit. Everest is not directly visible from the camp, but the panorama of the surrounding eight-thousanders in the Himalayas is breathtaking. Only climbers and Sherpas who pay a high fee can sleep in the tents of Everest Base Camp. Climbers usually spend a considerable amount of time here to acclimatize to the higher altitude. They then continue to the South Col and attempt to summit via the classic southeast route.
