Großer Muntanitz is part of challenge: Austrian Alps

Großer Muntanitz (3232 m) is the highest peak of the Granatspitzgruppe mountain range in the Hohe Tauern in Austria. In good weather, the summit offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, especially the Großglockner to the east and the Venedigergruppe mountain range to the west.

The first ascent of Großer Muntanitz was made on September 2, 1871, by Arthur von Schmid and mountain guide Thomas Groder.

The marked normal route (Karl Schöttner-Weg) leads from the Sudetendeutsche Hütte mountain hut (2656 m, usually open from late June to mid/late September, 23 beds, 32 mattresses, and 12 mattresses in the winter refuge). If there is no snow and it is dry, the ascent is relatively straightforward.
