The Tennengebirge is one of the smaller limestone ranges of the Northern Limestone Alps. It is located in the Austrian state of Salzburg between the valleys of Salzach, Lammer, and Fritzbach. The highest peak of the range is Raucheck (2,430 m) with a prominence of 1,463 m, making it one of the most distinctive mountains in the Northern Limestone Alps.

The range is characterized by extensive karst plateaus, deep chasms, scree fields, and steep limestone walls. There are more than two hundred known caves, including Eisriesenwelt, the largest accessible ice cave in the world. Above its entrance rises the prominent Werfener Hochthron, which is included in the challenge despite not meeting the required prominence. Due to the climbing nature of the ascent, it is also the only optional peak in this challenge. The easiest ascent follows the southern ridge (Südgrat) and requires climbing skills. The difficulty of the normal route reaches UIAA III−.

The King of Tennengebirge challenge includes the most significant peaks of this unique mountain massif. In addition to the highest mountains, it also includes prominent landmarks of individual parts of the range. The ascents mainly follow marked mountain trails, sometimes crossing exposed rocky terrain, scree fields, and extensive karst plains. The reward is unique views of Dachstein, Hochkönig, the Berchtesgaden Alps, the Salzkammergut, and the High Tauern.

Join this challenge and gradually discover the beauty of the Tennengebirge.

Peak features included in the challenge:

minimum elevation of 1,800 m,
minimum prominence of 200 m (the exception is Werfener Hochthron),
