About chalet Bivacco Giusto Gervasutti
Itálie
The Gervasutti bivouac stands on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 2835 meters beneath the magnificent walls of the Grandes and Petites Jorasses. The first wooden hut was built in 1949 by the SUCAI subsection. It was named after Giusto Gervasutti, a 'very strong' climber from Turin, in memory of the deep friendships he had with young people in Sucai in Turin. After some damage, the bivouac was completely rebuilt in 1961 from wood and metal sheets.
In 2011, 50 years after the last reconstruction and on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the National School of Ski Mountaineering (www.scuolasucai.it), the SUCAI subsection (www.sucai.it) and CAI Turin (www.caitorino.it) decided to build a new structure to replace the existing one.
The new bivouac - designed by LEAPFactory - is made with a modular composite sandwich shell and is internally arranged into four rooms (entrance, dining room, 2 bedrooms with 12 beds) with a total area of thirty square meters and a weight of 1980 kilograms.
Electricity is generated by photovoltaic units with the latest generation batteries, allowing for internal lighting and the use of electric cooking plates. It is energy self-sufficient and, thanks to the presence of an onboard computer connected to the internet via satellite, the Gervasutti bivouac is constantly connected to the outside world, monitoring the operational status of the electrical system and sending the collected data.
The approach to the Gervasutti bivouac is arguably the most interesting of its kind on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. The route requires attention in the rocky initial section, at the foot of the Mont Greuvetta entrance, and on the glacier, which is increasingly affected each year. The itinerary has a climbing character in the last section (F / PD depending on conditions). You can reach it in about 3 hours.
Nearest peaks: Aiguille de Leschaux (3759 m, 1.3 km) Grandes Jorasses / Pointe Walker (4208 m, 2.1 km) Grandes Jorasses / Pointe Whymper (4184 m, 2.3 km)
