The central starting point for the peaks of the Balfring mountain range and the Nadelgrat ridge, as well as for high-altitude crossings. High-altitude hike to the small and large Bigerhorn. The ascent from the holiday village of Grächen leads across the glacier on flat terrain, which is an experience for climbers accustomed to ice (marked in summer). From the high-altitude hut, there is an impressive view of the ice masses of the Ried glacier and ibex in the area.
The hut has 44 beds with duvets, and the winter room has 9 places.
Access from Gasenried or Grächen through the larch forest to "Alpja" (Schafalp). 5:30 h. At the beginning of summer, thousands of alpine roses bloom around the alp! From Alpja, continue along the marked hiking trail to the Ried glacier. The easy flat crossing of the glacier is marked with reflective poles every 20 meters (only if the hut is occupied). Then the path rises briefly again until you reach the hut. Ask about the conditions for crossing the glacier, bring crampons!
