The hut is located in the Ennseck saddle at an altitude of 1699 m in the heart of the Ennstal Alps. Hesshütte is the second oldest mountain hut in Gesäuse. The first refuge here was opened as early as 1893. Between 1900 and 1910, the original modest building was further expanded to accommodate more visitors. The current appearance of Hesshütte was achieved during renovations from 1978 to 2006. The hut has a capacity of 115 beds. In 2004, a wastewater treatment plant was added, and the operation of the hut is fully ecological.
Outside of the season, the hut can be used for overnight stays thanks to the open winter room (10 beds). The winter room is useful in spring, autumn, or winter when crossing the Ennstal Alps.
The hut is suitable for individuals, groups, and families with children.
