About chalet Mittellegi Hütte
Švýcarsko
Mittellegi Hütte is a mountain hut in the Swiss Alps, located on the Eiger, on the Mittellegi ridge above Grindelwald. It is the highest mountain hut in the canton of Bern. Its construction was financed by Japanese climber Maki Yūkō in 1924 as a memorial to his first ascent of the Eiger.
The Grindelwald Mountain Guides Association met the growing demands of climbers, improved comfort, and optimized work processes. With the extension, there is also a chair available for each bed in the hut. Meals can thus be served at once. In case of bad weather, all guests can find a place in the lounge. The kitchen has ample storage space for meal preparation. Distances to the toilets have been optimized and shortened. The hut keeper now has her own room, and the hut has a larger storage area for materials. The number of beds has not been intentionally increased, so there will be no more climbers on the Mittellegigrat, with a maximum of 38 climbers not to be exceeded. The new hut was officially opened on June 29, 2019, thanks to the great efforts of the association members and craftsmen.
