Weissmies hütte is a hut on the western side of Lagginhorn, on a sunny terrace above Saas Grund, with a panoramic view of 18 four-thousanders, making it one of the most beautifully situated mountain huts in Valais. Together with the old hut right next to it, the term Weissmieshütten is also used.
In 1894, the old Weissmieshütte was built as Hotel Weissmies, which was acquired by the Olten section of the SAC in 1924 and operated 50 beds. In 1960, a new hut was built next to it. In summer, the huts are operated for climbers, and in winter, the new hut is open for skiers.
The ascent to the hut can be significantly shortened by taking the cable car from Saas Grund to the Kreuzboden station (about 2400 m above sea level) or Hohsaas (3141 m above sea level).
Weissmieshütte serves as a base for climbing Jegihorn, Fletschhorn, Lagginhorn, and Weissmies above the Trift Glacier.
Opening hours summer: From mid-June to the end of September, until mid-October, depending on conditions.
Opening hours winter: Christmas to a week after Easter, and overnight stays until the end of April, depending on conditions.
