The Chiemgau Alps lie on the border of Germany and Austria between the rivers Inn and Salzach, with most of the mountain range located in the Bavarian region of Chiemgau. Characteristic of this limestone mountain range are vast alpine meadows, long ridges, deep forests, and stunning views of Lake Chiemsee, often referred to as the "Bavarian Sea." The highest peak of the range is Sonntagshorn (1,961 m with a prominence of 1,182 m), making it one of the most prominent mountains on the northern edge of the Alps.

Most peaks are accessible via well-marked hiking trails, but there are also steeper limestone walls and secured routes, particularly concentrated in the Kampenwand area. Therefore, the Kampenwand Ostgipfel is included in the challenge, representing the highest commonly accessible peak of the massif. The four meters higher Kampenwand Hauptgipfel (prominence 588 m) is listed as an optional peak, as its ascent requires climbing equipment. Due to the open terrain, many peaks offer beautiful views of Chiemsee, the Berchtesgaden Alps, Kaisergebirge, and the High Tauern.

The King of the Chiemgau Alps challenge will take you to the most significant peaks of the various parts of the range. You can expect diverse ascents, traditional mountain huts, and the unique atmosphere of the Bavarian Alps. Although you won't find high mountains with glaciers here, you will be rewarded with panoramic views, pleasant hiking, and the experience of one of the most beautiful mountain ranges on the northern edge of the Alps.

Peak features in the challenge:
- elevation above 1600m (the only exception is Spitzstein, which is just 2m lower:-)
- prominence above 500m
- there is a route leading to it, even unmarked or via ferrata
- ascent is not prohibited
