A prominent mountain in northern Bohemia, the highest peak of the Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge, a landmark of Liberec, and the 11th most prominent Czech mountain. In good weather, about a third of Bohemia, plus a bit of Germany and Poland, can be seen from Ještěd.
At the summit stands the famous television transmitter designed by architect Karel Hubáček, awarded the prestigious Auguste Perret Prize, the title of the Most Significant Czech Building of the 20th Century, and inclusion among the Seven Wonders of the Czech Republic. At the lower part of the transmitter, there is a hotel and restaurant. A cable car leads to the summit, and there is a ski resort on the lower slopes.
German tourists already kept records of the number of ascents, and to this day, the Jizera-Ještěd Mountain Club issues a card for recording ascents. Thanks to these historical and current records, we know, among other remarkable performances:
  • In 1 day - 12× Rudolf Kauschka (1922)
  • In 1 day - 24× Radim Třešňák (2015)
  • In 1 year - 709× Lilly Flassaková (1937)
  • In 1 year - 1212× Vladimír Ježek (2016)
  • Total ascents - 5000+ Frieda Mandeliková (up to 1937)

At the summit, there was a historical pillar of the Royal Saxon triangulation - Station 4 Jeschken.
