Mount Taranaki is a dormant stratovolcano, which you may also find on some maps as Mt. Egmont. The cone of the stratovolcano is extremely symmetrical, which is particularly evident in the boundary of the park that surrounds the mountain. This boundary forms almost a perfect circle. It's somewhat like Milešovka on steroids. On the slopes, there is a row of huts where you can stay overnight (after paying in the town).
