Grosse Bischofsmütze is part of challenge: King of the Dachstein Mountains
Bischofsmütze is the highest peak of the Gosaukamm ridge, which extends independently from the Dachstein massif. The name translates to Bishop's Cap. In some guides, it is referred to as the Devil's Horns. The prominent double summit of Bischofsmütze consists of the lower (Kleine) and higher (Grosse) peaks at 2,458 m above sea level. The normal ascent route leads through the Southern Gully (Mützenschlucht) between them. Seven pitches of maximum grade III climbing take us to the wooden cross at the summit. It rises in the federal state of Salzburg above the town of Filzmoos. It is best accessed from the mountain hut Hofpürglhütte.
