At the top of the hill stands the eponymous Berat Castle, a gem of the Balkans with a breathtaking view. The majestic fortress, known as Kalaja e Beratit, rises above the Osum River and its history dates back to the 4th century BC. Over the centuries, it has been shaped by the Illyrians, Byzantines, and Ottomans. Today, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Inside the castle, you will find well-preserved Byzantine churches, mosques, and traditional stone houses. It offers a panoramic view of the city of Berat, known as the 'city of a thousand windows' or the white city.
