An extinct volcano eroded in the 19th century by intense mining. Four peaks create a contrast of black rocks and greenery. In the ravine, it's a completely different world than the surroundings. On the southern summit area stands a significant trigonometrical point (TB 17) - a stone observation column protected as a technical cultural monument. From the summit of Veliš, there is a beautiful panoramic view, especially of the Jičín region, Český ráj, Kozákovský ridge, and the Krkonoš mountains.
Once, there stood the royal castle of Veliš, probably built by Václav II, first mentioned in writing in 1316. Only very slight remnants of the castle remain today, firmly connected to the basalt foundation of the hill, vaguely marked access paths, and the terraced southern peak.
