Kruzenshtern is part of challenges: Highest Geographical Points of Europe, Ultraprominent Europe
The highest mountain of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago, located on the Northern Island. It was discovered in 1822 by Russian sailor Fyodor Petrovich Litke and named Gora Kruzenshterna, after Admiral Ivan Fyodorovich Kruzenstern, who became famous for the first successful Russian circumnavigation of the globe. After the October Revolution in 1917, the mountain was stripped of its original name for political reasons and began to be referred to as the Highest Point of Novaya Zemlya. In 2022, marking 200 years since its discovery, the original name was restored. However, the mountain is inaccessible as Novaya Zemlya is a Russian military territory.
