Mount Everest is part of challenges: Eight-thousanders, Seven Summits

The highest mountain in the Himalayas and also the highest in the world. In Tibetan, it is called Džomolangma, and in Nepali, Sagarmāthā. After several attempts at the first ascent in the 1920s led by British expeditions, the first successful ascent was on May 29, 1953. The first climbers to reach the summit were Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Today, Everest is literally overcrowded on the classic route, with all the negatives that come with it. There are a total of 16 other routes to the summit, most of which are rarely or never climbed.

One of the greatest achievements of Slovak climbers is worth mentioning - Peter Božík, Jozef Just, Jaroslav Jaško, and Dušan Becík ascended the Ch. Bonnington route in the southwest face in alpine style in October 1988, with Just being the only one to reach the summit. However, during the descent, all perished in deteriorating weather conditions.
