Chełmowa Góra - a hill with Polish larch is the highest point of the Pokrzywiańskie range located between the Słupianka valley to the west and the Dobruchna valley to the east. It is composed of light Devonian sandstones covered with loess deposits. Several forest communities are found within its territory. There are 286 monumental trees here, the most of which are larches (171) and beeches (93). At the end of the 19th century, Professor Marcin Raciborski conducted research on Chełmowa Góra and based on this research published his first work on the Polish larch in 1890. Subsequently, in 1913, Professor Władysław Szafer described the characteristics of the larch from Chełmowa Góra as a separate species and named it Polish larch, Larix polonica Rac. At the summit of Chełmowa Góra stands a monument made of red sandstone dedicated to Professor Marcin Raciborski. Chełmowa Góra is located in the Świętokrzyskie National Park, where it is strictly forbidden to move off marked paths. Please respect this fact and do not unnecessarily go to the summit. To acknowledge your visit, it is sufficient to reach the summit sign. The summit of Chełmowa Góra is traversed by the black hiking trail of Jerzy Kapuściński from Piórków to Nowa Słupia.
