Mount Maunganui, known to the residents of Tauranga simply as "The Mountain," is a volcanic dome that rises at the end of the peninsula on which the city is situated. It is also a place you should quickly ascend to during your stay in Tauranga in case of an earthquake, as it will protect you from a tsunami. From the summit, there are breathtaking views of the bay with the harbor, the city, and the sea level. There are several circular trails around the entire hill.
