The castle hidden at the crossroads surprises with its inconspicuousness. First, the preserved portal of the entrance gate catches your eye. Once you pass under it, a vast castle complex with many preserved walls opens up before you, leaving travelers in no doubt that this was a grand residence. After climbing the stone staircase, you reach a twenty-meter granite outcrop, which likely served as an observation point and from which there are still amazing views today.
The castle was founded in 1375 by a courtier of Prince Bolko II from the Bolcz family, utilizing the local granite terrain and numerous steep stone walls and columns. From 1419 to 1433, the castle was one of the main strongholds of the Hussite movement in Silesia. In 1433, the Hussites were defeated by the townspeople of Świdnica, who had Bolczów destroyed. The restoration of the castle began only in 1537, and by 1550 it had been significantly expanded. In 1645, the Swedes took over the management of the castle, and upon leaving the fortress in December of the same year, they set fire to all residential buildings.
