Uraniborg, located at the highest point of the Swedish island of Ven, is a fascinating monument of scientific history. In the 16th century, it was built by Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe as the first modern observatory in Europe, specifically designed for astronomical observations – even before the invention of the telescope. It served not only as a center for star research but also as a laboratory for alchemy and meteorology. Today, visitors can find a reconstructed Renaissance garden, the ruins of the observatory, and the underground Stjerneborg, which hosts a multimedia exhibition. The site is part of the Tycho Brahe Museum, located in the former Allhelgonakyrkan church. Uraniborg is also the destination of a picturesque 12 km hiking trail that circles the entire island, offering views of the sea, tranquil beaches, and the natural beauty of the island of Ven.
