About peak Rochers de Naye

Švýcarsko Švýcarsko

Vrchol Rochers de Naye was added here by Milan "Hojší" Průžek and info was completed by Martin Matějka.

Rochers de Naye is easily accessible from Montreux, where the highest railway in the canton begins, the Montreux–Glion–Rochers-de-Naye railway. From the upper cable car station (1,968 m), it is just a short walk to the summit. Additionally, you can reach the summit by driving to Col de Jaman and then taking a 2-3 hour hike to the top.

Rochers de Naye is also known for the Rochers de Naye via ferratas, which are considered extremely difficult (ED), Grottes de Naye (caves accessible via a trail between Col de Jaman and Rochers de Naye), and several enclosures that host marmots from around the world.

Elevation gain: 1,670 m from Chillon, about 700 m from Sonchaux
Hiking time: 4.5 hours from Chillon, 2 hours from Sonchaux
Risk: if snow still lingers below the summit, the traverse across the steep meadow towards the cogwheel station can be dangerous.

Ascent:
Drsoni park at the lake right by the famous Chillon Castle, which is built at the point where the ridge of Rochers de Naye drops steeply into the lake. They find a hiking trail here that they will not leave until the summit. The path first winds through a wooded slope, and after about 1,000 meters of elevation gain, we reach an inn at a place called Sonchaux. A road leads to Sonchaux from Villeneuve, and many of us more comfortable hikers drive up to here (there is a reasonably large parking lot). From Sonchaux, the ascent becomes more interesting, offering beautiful views of the lake and the Alps, and the higher we go, the more beautiful it gets. When we are close to the summit, we are dismayed to find out that a cogwheel train runs from Montreux to here (about 40 Sfr). The summit is therefore crowded with even bigger tourists than us.

Chillon - Sonchaux 2.5 hours (tourist)
Sonchaux - summit 2 hours (tourist)
