Ostrý is one of the highest landmarks in the western part of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. Geographically, it belongs to the Lysá hora mountain range, which is composed of flysch bands and Godula sandstone. It forms a massive ridge extending from the mountain junction of Kalužný towards the northeast, creating two steep valleys drained by the mountain streams Tyrka and Kopytná.
