The artificial mound with a diameter of 50 m and a height of 14 m is a burial mound from the early Iron Age (8th–5th century BC). A highly ranked member of the aristocracy from the East Hallstatt cultural circle, likely a local ruler (“prince”), was buried in the large mound or beneath it. A smaller adjacent mound known as the “Queen's Grave” was excavated in the 1950s.
This two-and-a-half-thousand-year-old mound is a significant monument that gave its name to the village in the early Middle Ages (Velké Mohelno-Großmugl). Access to the mound itself is prohibited due to damage to the earthen shell, which is subject to accelerated erosion due to trampling of vegetation and the creation of paths.
