The mountain rises from the unique limestone plateau of Fanes Alpe on the northern side of the massif. The view from the summit includes all the well-known Dolomite massifs such as Marmolada, Sorapis, Monte Cristallo, Civetta, Monte Pelmo, and others. The southern wall towers over the Val Badia valley by 1400 meters. Further north, the massif continues with the famous monumental wall of Sasso della Croce, which is a frequent subject for photographers. On the eastern side, the Lavarella massif is separated from the lower but more popular ridge of Monte Cavallo (2912 m) - Monte Castello (2817 m), the Fanestal valley.
