King of Gurktal Alps
The Gurktal Alps are among the less visited yet more authentic mountain ranges in the southern part of Austria. They offer tranquility, vast ridges, and a sense of true mountain solitude. This challenge will take you to a landscape where rounded peaks, deep forests, and open alpine meadows with distant views alternate.
A characteristic feature of the area is the so-called "Nocks" – rounded, grassy peaks that may seem gentle at first glance, but together provide physically demanding crossings. This inconspicuousness is one of the reasons why the challenge tests not only fitness but also planning skills.
The famous high-altitude road Nockalmstrasse runs through the mountains, offering a unique view of the landscape and allowing access to higher altitudes. Despite this accessibility, the mountains maintain their calm and non-commercial character.
An interesting aspect of the Gurktal Alps is the presence of several prominent peaks with a prominence of over 1000 meters, making them landmarks in the surrounding area. These mountains rise above the landscape with respect and emphasize the overall vastness and "undulating" character of the range.
The highest mountain in this range is Eisenhut at an elevation of 2441m.
The second highest peak is Rosennock at 2440m, which is only 1m lower than the highest peak.
We also have two true gems with a prominence of over 1000m: Mirnock at 2110m P1336 and Wollaner Nock at 2145m P1042.

Peaks over 1800m with a prominence greater than 500m.
Peaks over 2200m with a prominence greater than 300m.
