Rainerova chata (in Polish Rainerowa Chatka, in Hungarian Rainer-kunyhó, in German Rainer-Hütte) is the oldest high-altitude hut in the High Tatras. It is located near the upper station of the cable car to Hrebienok at the mouth of the Velká studená dolina valley. It was founded in 1863 by a Spiš German, the Smokovec hotelier Johann Georg Rainer. After the construction of the Kamzík hut 19 years later, it fell into disuse. Rainerova chata then served only as a dormitory for guides and porters, later it was used as a storage or garage. The neighboring Kamzík hut was closed in 1980 due to poor technical condition.
Rainerova chata was restored in 1998. The hut features an exhibition about the past and present of mountain porters, a collection of historical climbing equipment, and old skis. The hut is open year-round and, in addition to refreshments, also serves as an information center.
