The Hochjoch-Hospiz is located at one of the most significant crossings over the Alps. The development of tourism began in the second half of the 19th century. The first building was constructed on the opposite side of the valley. This hut became unusable by the end of World War I due to avalanches and looting. The then-owner Mark Brandenburg therefore built a replacement building in the 1920s.
