About chalet Arbenbiwak

A small accommodation with 15 beds and a fully equipped kitchen, located at the foot of Ober Gabelhorn, serves as a base for experienced climbers with the appropriate gear. The unmaintained alpine summer hut was a gift from the Dutch Royal Alpine Association to the SAC Zermatt section on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of KNAV in 1977. Impressive views of the Matterhorn glacier and the north face of the Matterhorn.
Access:
For climbers only, equipment is necessary. Caution: Avalanche risk upon entry in winter! Not suitable for tourists!
From Zermatt via Zmutt, Kalbermatten, Arben waterfall, Arbengandegga, Arben glacier, to the bivouac 5-6 hours.
From Zermatt by gondola to Schwarzsee, descend to Staffelalp restaurant and through Arben waterfall, Arbengandegga, Arben glacier, to the bivouac 4-5 hours.
